Emily Kern - Head Coach

Coach Emily has been a member of the Marshall Tiger Dance Team coaching staff since 2012. The 2019-20 dance season will mark her 8th year coaching for MTDT and her 3rd year as head coach for the varsity team. Throughout her time as a coach, the MTDT has made seven state appearances in jazz and five state appearances in kick. Prior to coaching dance, Emily spent most of her life in the dance world.


Emily began dancing at the age of 3 at a studio out of Eagan, MN. She was the first five-year member of the Eastview Lightning Dance Team, making the varsity team in the eighth grade. Over the course of her high school dance career, the LDT made it to finals in both kick and jazz each year, winning three state titles in the high kick category. Her senior year of high school, Emily was elected as a captain of the LDT, all-state participant, and member of the all-tournament high kick team. In college, she continued her dance career as a three-year member of the Minnesota State University-Mankato Mavericks dance team where she competed three times in the National Dance Alliance Collegiate Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida.
 

Outside of dance, Emily works as a School and Family Mental Health Counselor with Greater Minnesota Family Services at MATEC in Marshall.

 

Bri West - Assistant Varsity Coach

Coach Bri has been a member of the MTDT coaching staff since 2014, making the 2019-20 season her 6th year coaching for the team. Bri has been able to be a part of 5 state appearances with the MTDT - 5 in jazz and 3 in kick. She is excited to start her third season as an Assistant Varsity Coach!

 

Before coaching, Bri started dancing at a local studio in Marshall, MN at the age of 3, and joined the Marshall Just For Kix program in 4th grade. Starting in the 7th grade, Bri was a 6-year varsity member of the Marshall Tiger Dance Team. As a MTDT dancer, Bri was a captain for 2 years, a 2 time All-State participant, and a member of the All-Tournament Jazz team her senior year. After high school, Bri danced with the Minnesota State University - Mankato Mavericks dance team for one year.

Aside from being an MTDT coach, Bri works at Ralco Agriculture in the Human Resources department.

Kiersti Grey - Junior Varsity Coach

Coach Kiersti has been a member of the MTDT coaching staff since 2018, making the 2019-2020 season her second season as a JV Kick coach and the JV Jazz coach.

 

Kiersti grew up in Montevideo and has been dancing since the age of 5. She was a three sport athlete, participating on the volleyball, dance, and softball teams. She was on the Montevideo JV dance team for 1 year and the varsity dance team for 5 years. While dancing at Montevideo, Kiersti was a senior captain, a 2 time West Central All-Conference High Kick dancer, West Central Conference Champion in High Kick, a 3 time state participant in high kick - making it to finals twice!, a member of the Wells Fargo All-Tournament team, and a MADT All-State participant!

 

Aside from coaching, Kiersti is a 3rd grade teacher at West Side Elementary.

Maddie Lukan - Junior Varsity Coach

Coach Maddie is from from Anoka, MN and has been dancing for 15 years. She will continue dancing in college as captain at Southwest Minnesota State University where she is majoring in elementary education.

 

Maddie started dancing when she was 3 years old at her studio, Dance Revue Studio of Dance located in Ramsey, MN. She was apart of the Anoka high school dance team both the fall and winter seasons for 4 years. Being named JV captain her junior year and finally a team captain her senior year. She coached her middle schools B team for a year, assisted her studio preschool class for 2 years and taught a pre-comp group at her studio.

 

Maddie is also a preschool dance teacher for Marshall Academy of Dance. This will be her 2nd year coaching for MTDT and is super excited to share her passion and love for dance with the girls of the Marshall Tiger Dance Team.
